About Webinar

Oil and gas equipment is highly prone to corrosion, which can result in large-scale damage and accidents. The interplay of electrochemical processes, electric currents, fluid flow, and structural mechanics means that modeling this type of equipment calls for software with multiphysics simulation capabilities.

In this webinar, we will discuss how engineers can use multiphysics simulation to predict and prevent corrosion for safe and robust drilling operations as well as devise appropriate protection systems for oil rigs and pipeline networks.

Key Discussion Points

  • Simulating different types of corrosion including:
    • Stress-induced corrosion and CO2 corrosion in pipelines
    • Galvanic corrosion and the effects of mixed potential
    • Crevice and pitting corrosion
  • Modeling corrosion protection systems such as:
    • Impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP)
    • Protection using sacrificial anodes
    • Anodic protection
